Remembrance Day Day
Each year millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who sacrificed for our freedom. The Legion has provided each of our students with a poppy to wear on Remembrance Day, November 11th, as a symbol of Remembrance.

This year, due to covid-19 restrictions, we are unable to collect funds for the Poppy Campaign at the school. However, we ask families to please consider donating to our local Legion in support of vertans and their families.

Information for Back to School 2020 for Back to School 2020

Information for Guthrie Families

Dear Guthrie Students,

Welcome back! We are excited to welcome you and your family back to Guthrie. Our staff has missed you and they have been in the school preparing for a safe and welcoming return. We are really looking forward to seeing each and every one of you.

This week, your teacher will reach out to your parents to connect and welcome you and your family back to Guthrie. When you return to school you will find that many of our school routines have changed. When buses arrive at school they will disembark one at a time and you will need go to your designated area on the yard where your teacher will be waiting to greet you. I would ask that if parents plan to drive their child to school that they please delay arrival until as close to the 9:10 a.m. entry bell as possible. This will help us promote social distancing and reduce congestion in the parking lot. To support social distancing, our entry and exit routines have changed and we have designated specific entrances and exits for each class to use at all times. Your teacher will review and practice the entrance and exit routines with you during our first week back together. According to board protocols only staff and students are permitted to enter the school. Parents will need to ring the front doorbell for assistance but should not enter the building. If parents are dropping students off before school or picking up students at the end of the day they should plan to wait on the tarmac and practice social distancing.

As usual, you will need to bring your indoor shoes and school supplies. All your personal items will stay with you at your work area. Teachers will review with you the importance of not sharing your supplies with others.

As you prepare for the first day of school, here are some important things you will need to know.

Elementary school start date (Kindergarten to Grade 8):

Students with surnames A-G will attend Tuesday, September 8, 2020

Students with surnames H-O will join students with the surnames A-G in attending Wednesday, September 9, 2020

All elementary students will attend Thursday, September 10, 2020

Junior Kindergarten students will begin attendance on Thursday, September 10, 2020 as previously planned and communicated with parents/guardians

All students in county class programs (social skills, developmental skills, life skills and autism spectrum disorder) will begin on Tuesday, September 8, and will attend every day.

The staggered entry plan for elementary students ensures that families are able to send all children in their household to school on the same day.

Health and safety

Students in Grade 4 to 8 will be required to wear a face mask while inside the school building. Plan for pick up of Student Items June 2020 for pick up of Student Items June 2020

Dear Guthrie Families,

We have been working to ensure that students and families will have an opportunity to collect personal belongings left behind when the Ontario government ordered schools to be closed as of March 13th. I want to thank all of our families for your continued patience and understanding. Staff have been in our school this week to sort and package student belongings. We have received guidelines and have developed a plan to strictly control access and maintain proper hygiene and social distancing to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.

On Monday June 8th and Tuesday June 9th parents will have the opportunity to pick up student belongings through curbside pickup. Parents are asked to drop off any loaned items such as classroom books and library books. A bin will be placed outside for safe return.

We will follow a similar process to the one we use each year for the Oro Fair in order to help avoid any congestion. Parents are asked to arrive during the designated timeframe based on your child's last name (see schedule below). Tables will be at the front of the school with student belongings bagged, labelled by name and organized by class. Any items in classrooms where staff are unable to identify the owner will be placed on tables arranged by class in front of the portables. Please note that only one adult from each family should come to the school for pick up. Please remember to always respect social distancing, wear a mask and gloves if you wish to, and be patient.

For safety reasons, staff are not permitted to meet with parents at the pick up tables, in the parking lot etc. or to hand deliver additional materials – please don't ask them to do so. Some of our staff members will be here to monitor the tables and answer questions. Medications and epi pens will be placed into a bag with your child's belongings.

In the event of rain we will postpone the pick up to the following day.

Monday June 8th 2pm - 3pm

A – B

Monday June 8th 3:30pm – 4:30pm

C– D

Monday June 8th 5pm – 6pm

E – H

Tuesday June 9th 10am – 11am

I– L

Tuesday June 9th 11:30 am -12:30pm

M - O

Tuesday June 9th 1pm – 2pm

P - R

Tuesday June 9th 2:30pm – 3:30pm

S - T

Tuesday June 9th 4pm – 5pm

U - Z

Additional Important Information

Parents and students will not enter the school building.

Curbside pick-up will be organized by class following the schedule.

Physical distancing and safe hygiene practices will be in place.

During pickup hours, staff will direct parents to help ensure physical distancing and the safe flow of traffic.

A separate date will be set for the collection of electronic equipment such as Chromebooks

No outdoor supervision will be provided during pickup hours and school playgrounds remain closed.

If you have any additional questions, please email Mrs. Lund or Mrs. Loffelman as they will be able to assist you.
